This week we heard from Adrian Turner, who returned to Monbulk Christian Fellowship (MCF) after helping to plant the church forty years ago. His message profoundly explored the truth that Jesus is the hope of the world, stemming from his identity as the eternal Son of God who willingly restricted himself to a human body out of love for us. The sermon highlighted Jesus’ core purpose statements: his desire for us to have life to the full, to become fishers of men, to build his church, and to empower his disciples to make disciples of all nations. We learned that Jesus has chosen to work through his church, making our role crucial in his global mission of transformation and reconciliation.
Adrian also introduced his role as an intentional interim pastor, describing it as a “forensic investigation” into the functions of the local congregation. This interim period is presented as an opportunity for MCF to “take a breath” and re-evaluate its purpose, practices, and, crucially, its alignment with Jesus’ vision for his church.
