Overcoming Offence

This week, we explored the crucial topic of offence, focusing on how to respond when we are wronged. We learned that offences are an unavoidable part of life, a result of our imperfect world, and that the enemy actively uses them to steal our joy and create division. Drawing on Jesus’ teachings, we discovered the seriousness of causing others to stumble, particularly children, and the profound importance of unconditional forgiveness, even when offended multiple times a day. We were encouraged to address offences quickly to prevent bitterness and negative consequences, as exemplified by the speaker’s personal experience of carrying an offence for years. The sermon highlighted God’s provision of tools like love, grace, and forgiveness to equip us in dealing with difficult situations, contrasting earthly wisdom that leads to bitterness and confusion with divine wisdom that fosters peace, gentleness, and mercy. Ultimately, we were challenged to choose reconciliation and understanding over anger, recognising our responsibility as believers to exhibit God’s love and humility, rather than claiming divine support for our own justifications. The message called us to become masters of forgiveness, grace, and God’s love, aiming to win a brother or sister over instead of winning an argument.
