This week we explored the profound subject of “the fear of the Lord,” a concept far richer than common human fear. The message defines it not as anxiety, but as a deep honour, respect, reverence, and adoration for God’s awesome greatness and divinity. It also encompasses a relationship with God so cherished that the very thought of sin, which could lead to separation, becomes detestable. Driven primarily by our love for God, this fear is a complete acceptance and obedience to His sovereignty. We delved into the scriptural understanding that the fear of the Lord is considered God’s treasure and should be something deeply desired and pursued. The sermon highlighted various benefits, including wisdom, prolonged life, strong confidence, refuge, and a pathway to God’s secrets. Furthermore, we examined practical steps to cultivate this fear in our lives, such as completely rejecting evil, actively choosing to embrace it, guarding our speech to reflect holiness, and diligently studying God’s word. Jesus himself, whose delight was in the fear of the Lord, serves as the ultimate example for us to aspire to.
